Prof. Joan Vendrell Ortega has been elected as the new president of the Catalan Association of Diabetes during the XV congress meeting earlier March this year. Prof. Vendrell, the Director of the Endocrinology Department at the University Hospital Joan XXIII, and the director of the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV).

The Catalan Association of Diabetes (ACD) is a multi-disciplinary association that includes doctors, nurses, dietitians, chiropodists, pedagogues and other professionals and technicians related to the treatment of this pathology (and their variants) as well as graduates and university students. The main objectives of the ACD are to promote social and scientific interaction tasks between professionals, helping them in training and dissemination activities that are done in the field of diabetes to reach out to society.

Prof Vendrell noted that “Health professionals want to be up-to-date on new knowledge and new technologies, and they are also worried about precariousness in the workplace in the medical professional field”. Thus, one of his priorities for ACD will be to act as a meeting point to get together and share our concerns on training and their incorporation to the public and private workforce systems.
